Leipzig (pop. 500,000) is located
in Saxony in the eastern part of germany. It has the reputation of having many architectural jewels. It was once home for Bach, Goethe, Schiller and Wagner. Historic buildings have been restored and cleaned and much of the city's vibrancy and street life have returned since the peaceful revolution in 1989 in which Leipzig had a leading role. The local football club VFB Leipzig had a tough time adapting to the new economic realities after reunification and is currently not playing in one of the top professional leagues.
